When you’re shopping for countertops, you’ll often find that there are no options quite like stone. Stone countertops are a timeless, gorgeous choice, and people tend to gravitate toward stone because it gets the job done and looks beautiful at the same time.
At Affordable Quality Marble & Granite, our natural stones include granite and marble, and our engineered stone is none other than quartz. Any of these options would be a great addition to your kitchen or bathroom, and we would love to tell you more about them.
In this article, we’ll explain what you need to know about each of the stones that we offer. That way, when it comes time to choose which you want for your home, you have all the information that you need.
Granite
When people think of classic stone for countertops, they most often think of granite. That’s because granite has been a popular choice for quite a few years. This natural stone is unique and durable and takes no issue with heat because it’s created under such intense temperatures beneath the earth’s surface. It also doesn’t scratch easily!
Since it’s a porous stone, granite requires sealing, but the process isn’t taxing at all. You can do it on your own, without even having to call in the pros! Talk to us about how often you should be sealing your granite countertops.
As for colorations and patterns, granite is highly varied. Whether you’re looking for light or dark colors, we’ve got something that will suit your fancy.
Marble
Marble is the other natural stone that we stock at Affordable Quality Marble & Granite, and we are extremely proud to do so. Many people know marble for its extraordinary looks, and we must say that the aesthetics of marble never get old. Its bright and crisp nature allows it to take advantage of the natural light inside a room and brighten up the space exponentially, which can make even the tiniest kitchen or bathroom look roomy.
Because it is a porous stone like granite, marble requires sealant as well. Without sealant, marble is much more vulnerable to stains and etching, so be sure to seal it on a regular basis. We can help you figure out a schedule that works for your stone.
Be careful with acidic substances, like wine, milk, or juice, around marble; the surface of it can stain somewhat easily, even with sealant. If you do spill, wipe it up as quickly as you can.
Quartz
Quartz is our go-to option for an engineered stone. This material is man-made, made with a base of natural quartz with polymers and resins included as additives. These additives bind the particles together and seal the pores of quartz, creating a nonporous, antimicrobial surface that is super hygienic, easy to clean, and never needs to be sealed. Another great aspect of quartz countertops is that they don’t stain easily at all.
One thing to be careful with around quartz countertops is heat. Since the resins in its composition are a type of plastic, stay safe by always using a hot pad or trivet in the kitchen to prevent scorching or melting.
